3rd Annual Northland Community Wellness Event, Saturday April 28th

The St. Louis County Board of Commissioners has proclaimed Saturday April 28, 2012 as Community Wellness Day and urges all of its citizens to recognize and participate in its observance.

Public and private sector organizations including St. Louis County, City of Duluth, University of Minnesota-Duluth, Associated Chiropractic of Kenwood, Essentia Health and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota have joined forces with 40 other organizations, including local farmers, to promote healthy life styles, public safety, environmental wellness and financial literacy.  A free community wellness event will be held on Saturday April 28, 2012 in observance of Community Wellness Day at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, Romano Gym from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The Wellness Day event will feature keynote speaker Joel Salatin, a grass-roots farmer from Swopes, Virginia, who was featured in the documentary, “Fresh  the Movie,” the Michael Pollans New York Times bestselling novel, “The Omnivores Dilemma,” and in the Academy Award nominated best-selling independent documentary of all time, “Food, Inc.”

There will be youth activities throughout the day including a rock climbing wall, moonwalk bouncing house, sumo wrestling, as well as interactive activities led by UMD student athletes from the basketball, football and hockey programs.  Free parking is available in Lot G and in the Maroon parking lots on campus.

The event is free to the public and exhibitor proceeds will benefit the Domiano Center’s Kids Café in Duluth.  For questions about the event, contact the St. Louis County Human Resources Department at 726-2422.
