St. Louis County Board to Honor Thomas Hrabik PhD., Associate Professor
at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, Department of Biology
 
In keeping with the St. Louis County Board’s 2011 theme of recognizing those county residents who have excelled in the fields of arts and sciences, Second District County Commissioner Steve O’Neil will honor University of Minnesota-Duluth Associate Professor Thomas Hrabik, PhD in Oceanography and Limnology, with its “Excellence in the Arts & Sciences” award next Tuesday, April 5th.  Professor Hrabik will be recognized by the County Board beginning at 9:30 a.m., just prior to the regular County Board meeting held in the County Board Room of the St. Louis County Courthouse, 100 North 5th Ave. W., Duluth, MN.

Commissioner O’Neil explained his selection of Thomas Hrabik by saying, “Professor Hrabik represents the level of scientific excellence that is abundantly present among the faculty and research professionals who serve our region’s institutions of higher learning. Professor Hrabik is currently Associate Director of Graduate Studies, Ecology, Organismal and Population Biology Track, Integrated Biosciences Program at UMD in Duluth.”

Professor Hrabik is noted for his extensive research, scientific reports, presentations, published abstracts, and lectures, on topics relating to the environmental health of our area’s greatest natural resource: Lake Superior. Representative works include the development of a hydro acoustic survey design for the Minnesota waters of Lake Superior and an Estimation of prey fish biomass in the Minnesota waters of Lake Superior using hydro acoustics. Much of his recent work has been in support of the Great Lakes Fishery Commission, Lake Superior Technical Committee.
