FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Spring Road Restrictions Are Now In Place for St. Louis County Roads
In North-Central & North Zones
Pursuant to Minnesota Statutes 169.87 and St. Louis County Ordinance No. 13, St. Louis County highways located in the North-Central and North Zones will be posted with spring road restrictions at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, March 18, 2011. The North-Central Zone includes the area south of US Highway 2 and west of State Highway 33. The North Zone includes the area north of US Highway 2 and east of State Highway 33. Information on zone boundaries can be obtained by following the Seasonal Load Limits link from the Minnesota Department of Transportation’s website at www.mrr.dot.state.mn.us/research/seasonal_load_limits/sllindex.asp.
Highway maintenance vehicles, mobile library units, school buses, and emergency public utility vehicles fall under specific requirements as described in Minnesota Statute 169.87, Subd. 3, 4, 5 & 6. Many propane and fuel oil providers have already “topped off” their customers’ tanks prior to the posting of spring load restrictions, since their hauling vehicles are overweight on many of the posted county roads even when empty.
Unpaved Roads: Any un-posted unpaved roads are limited to five (5) tons per axle. Roads may accommodate higher than the five (5) ton limitation, only if the postings are in place.
Paved Roads: All paved roads will be posted with the effective per axle weight restrictions.
Once the spring load restrictions are applied they will remain in force until they are lifted around May 13, 2011. Load restriction maps are posted on our web site at http://www.stlouiscountymn.gov/ under Transportation>Traffic Control>Road Restrictions.
