St. Louis County Recognizes Contented Critters

As part of St. Louis County’s Sesquicentennial year, the County is presenting a Volunteer Recognition Award to Faye and Walter Peters of Contented Critters on Tuesday, June 27, 2006 at 9:30 AM at the St. Louis County Courthouse at Semers Park in Ely as part of its regular County Board meeting.

Fourth District County Commissioner Mike Forsman will present the award to Walter and Faye Peters.  Walter and Faye started Contented Critters, a project of Spay and Neuter Aid Program (SNAP) in Makinen, Minnesota in December of 1995.  SNAP is a state licensed “no-kill” animal sanctuary, fully funded by public and private donations and operated by an all volunteer staff.  Their sole purpose is to protect and care for animals until suitable homes are found.  Contented Critters has responded in a prompt and caring way to calls from the St. Louis Sheriff’s Office and the Health and Human Services Department in regard to abandoned animals.  There have been many times when Walter, Faye, or one of their volunteers have made late night trips to respond to a call from a Deputy or constituent.  This shelter provides a safe haven for the abandoned, neglected, abused and unwanted animals in St. Louis County.  They accept dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, rodents, horses, and even goats.  Their policy is that no animal leaves without spaying or neutering.  In typical years, Contented Critters/SNAP/ and their over 150 volunteers have served over 300 cats and dogs annually.

St. Louis County very much appreciates the patience, hard work, and dedication of Contented Critters and their staff of volunteers as they continue to care for the animals in need and try to find homes for them.
