Public is Invited to Meetings on Virginia Courthouse Improvement Plan
On Thursday, February 3, 2011, Sixth District St. Louis County Commissioner Keith Nelson is hosting two public informational meetings regarding upcoming improvements to the century old Virginia Courthouse, located at 300 South 5th Avenue. The public is invited to meetings set for 2:00 p.m. and again at 6:00 p.m. in Courtroom No. 4, located on the first floor of the Virginia Courthouse. 

Mark Wirtanen, from Architectural Resources, Inc. will be present to explain the preliminary design plans for the renovations, which include major changes to the St. Louis County Attorney’s Office and construction of an addition for law enforcement and Arrowhead Regional Corrections probation services. Prior to the opportunity for public comment on the preliminary plan, St. Louis County Property Management Director, Tony Mancuso, will provide an overview of the proposed changes to the courthouse campus and the energy saving initiatives which have been incorporated into the design,

The Virginia Courthouse renovations are part of a $7,135,000 general obligation capital improvement bond sale approved by the County Board in November, 2010.  At that time, Commissioner Nelson, acknowledged his fellow County Board members “for their commitment and support to upgrade the Virginia Courthouse with improvements that will extend the life of the landmark facility for many years to come.” Construction will begin in early in 2011, and will be completed within the year.
