Northland Employers Team Up for May 8th Wellness Event

Employees from a number of public and private sector organizations including St. Louis County, City of Duluth, City of Superior, Carlton County, SMDC Health Systems, and the Duluth Area YMCA have joined forces to combat obesity and to promote healthy life styles.  Area employees competed in a recent “Northland 10-Ton Challenge,” and are co-hosting a free community wellness event on Saturday May 8, 2010 at the University of Wisconsin-Superior, Marcovich Wellness Center from 10a.m.– 2p.m.

The event is open to the public and will feature:  interactive youth activities in the field house including a rock climbing wall, moonwalk, basketball, floor hockey, soccer, volleyball and track & field events; a health & wellness vendor fair offering free chair messages, giveaways, food samples and free raffles; and educational seminars on topics including medication therapy management, family nutrition, stress reduction and financial wellness.   Free parking will be made available in lots adjacent to the Marcovich Wellness Center and along Catlin Avenue on the UWS campus.

Persons with questions about the wellness event may contact Tiffany Carlson, St. Louis County Health Promotions Coordinator, at 720-1551 or by email at
