County Reaches Contract Agreements with Two AFSCME Units
St. Louis County and the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), Council No. 5 have agreed to new collective bargaining agreements for two AFSCME bargaining units. The two units, the Civil Service Basic and the Merit System Basic, represent nearly 1,000 of the county’s 1,700 employees. Members of the bargaining groups voted in favor of the contract settlements for 2010 and 2011 last week. Key terms of the agreements include no cost-of- living salary increases for the duration of the contracts, and partial limitations on increases in health care costs.
County Board Chair Steve Raukar praised the members of both negotiating teams for working together respectfully to craft the two-year settlement in these challenging economic times The new contracts are expected to receive final approval by the County Board in the coming weeks.
