St. Louis County Extension Presents Annual “Pumpkin and Squash Fest”

The St. Louis County Extension Office and the University of Minnesota Extension Service will be conducting an educational meeting and taste testing opportunity for pumpkin and squash lovers on October 15, 2009.  This year’s “Pumpkin and Squash Fest” will be held at the First United Methodist Church (Copper Top), 230 East Skyline Parkway from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The program is part of a series of events to assist northern gardeners with the home production of fruits and vegetables.

The educational portion of the program will focus on the essential information necessary for growing summer and winter squash and pumpkins. Variety selection, growing techniques, harvest, storage, food preparation, and decorative uses will be covered.  Horticulturist and University Extension Educator, Bob Olen, and the St. Louis County Master Gardeners will be the instructors. Included in the program are a squash taste-test and recipe sampler. A “Pumpkin and Squash Recipe Book,” which includes many of the featured dishes, has been published specifically for the event.

The $10 registration fee for the “Pumpkin and Squash Fest” includes all educational materials and the recipe book. Pre-registration is requested. Please call the St. Louis County Extension Office at 218-733-2870 for more information and to obtain a registration form.
