St. Louis County Seeks Public Input on Passenger Rail Facility Plan
St. Louis County Hosts Depot Master Plan Open House
Planning efforts continue to move forward for a new passenger rail terminal at the St. Louis County Union Depot. After hearing from key stakeholders and the general public during a planning session in June, the planning team is hosting a second open house on Wednesday, July 8, 2009, in the Depot’s Great Hall from to The open house wraps-up three days of intense planning and design work by project consultant Miller Dunwiddie Architecture. Participants will have the opportunity to review and critique that work and offer other creative ideas for how new passenger rail service terminating at the Depot could improve that facility and the surrounding neighborhood.
“This open house will build on the success of the June event and deliver some creative design solutions for the Depot and the surrounding area” said Steve Raukar, Chair of Northern Lights Express and St. Louis County Commissioner from Hibbing. The planning study consists of three components. A facility plan will provide design recommendations for creating a vibrant passenger terminal at the Depot. An area master plan will provide a guide for capturing new development opportunities presented by the new passenger rail service. An economic analysis will document current and potential future market conditions. The study is expected to be completed by fall 2009.
