FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:                                   Virginia, MN   218-749-7108

Open House and Press Conference Scheduled for New ARC

                                                       Probation Office

A press conference and open house has been scheduled for Friday, June 19, 2009 at 12:00 noon at the newly opened Arrowhead Regional Corrections (ARC) Probation Office, located at 301 S. 4th Avenue in Virginia, Minnesota.  The new office space recently opened in the former Luoma Chiropractic Clinic building, which was purchased by St. Louis County and remodeled to house ARC Probation. The event will be held at the new office, and then attendees are invited to the office of 6th District St. Louis County Commissioner Keith Nelson in the nearby County Courthouse. Commissioner Nelson, who is also an ARC Commissioner said, “The new ARC Probation Office completes county ownership of the entire city block creating a  public safety campus including the County Courthouse which houses the offices of the Sheriff,  County Attorney, County Recorder, County Commissioner, and District Court functions.”

The ARC Probation Office was formerly located in the county’s Northland Office Center. The move has opened up space in that building allowing the first phase of several moves for other county offices. During the week of June 8th, the County Veterans Services Office moved into the building from the US Bank building located across the street, and the County Assessor’s and Recorder’s Offices are scheduled to follow. This consolidation of county offices into the Northland Office Center continues the county’s progress toward ending the practice of renting office space throughout the county. The projected annual savings to taxpayers represented by this first phase of moves is nearly $50,000.
