FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Outdoor Sculpture Unveiling Ceremony Scheduled for
Hibbing Courthouse Annex
On Friday, June 5, 2009, at 10:30 a.m., nationally recognized artist, and Hibbing native, David L. Aho, will unveil his abstract 20’ tall metal sculpture installed on the south side of the St. Louis County Hibbing Courthouse Annex, located at 1814 East 14th Avenue, in Hibbing, Minnesota. The sculpture, named “Eclipse”, was commissioned by St. LouisCounty as an iconic piece of public art designed to be a welcoming landmark for travelers as they drive to St. LouisCounty offices in the Hibbing Annex and the CountyCourthouse, or on Howard Street into downtown Hibbing.
St. Louis County Commissioner Steve Raukar noted, “The role of public art in the life of a community speaks to the pride of place, and lends a unique distinction and identity. David Aho’s artistic work will mark this place with a cultural expression that will continue to welcome visitors to Hibbing, and its residents back home.”
Opened in July of 2006, the remodeled Hibbing Annex building, the former Mesabi Clinic, became the hallmark in St. LouisCounty’s dedicated efforts toward energy conservation and innovation. Under the guidance of local architectural firm, Architectural Resources, the facility implemented several unique mechanical and building design features, and incorporated new technologies making it the county’s most advanced high-tech energy facility.
The public is invited to attend the unveiling ceremony. Refreshments will be provided.
