Homelessness Advocates Meet at Salvation Army

St. Louis County Committee to End Homelessness in Ten Years will host a press conference on Friday, September 14, 2007 at 10:00 in the morning, in the parking lot of the Salvation Army, 215 S. 27th Avenue West (located at the 27th Avenue West exit off I35).  The press conference is to update the work of the committee, which is culminating in the first County-wide Implementation Team meeting in Cotton, MN, later that day.

In 2005 St. Louis County and the city of Duluth began a comprehensive planning process to work together to dramatically reduce homelessness.  The St. Louis County Committee to End Homelessness in Ten Years brought forward a plan of action that was approved by the St. Louis County Board and the Duluth City Council in March, 2007.  While a number of efforts to provide housing and services for people who are homeless have been under way, on Friday, September 14th, the county -wide Implementation Team will hold its first meeting in Cotton.

The Implementation Team is a diverse group of 20 citizens from the private and public sectors that will monitor the work of committees working to reduce homelessness, implement new ideas, evaluate programs, and oversee the progress in meeting the goal to dramatically reduce homelessness by 2016.
