County Attorneys Debut New Meth Documentary at Depot


     St. Louis County Attorney Melanie Ford, Lake County Attorney Russ Conrow, Carlton County Attorney Thomas Pertler, and the Minnesota County Attorneys Association are inviting local elected, school, and public health officials and the public to a screening and panel discussion of a new documentary, produced by the Minnesota County Attorneys Association: “Revealing Meth in Minnesota” from 3:30 – 5:00 on Monday, April 23, 2007 at the Great Hall of the St. Louis County Heritage and Arts Center (The Depot), 506 W. Michigan Street in Duluth. 


     The screening will be followed by a panel discussion moderated by Ramsey County Attorney Susan Gaertner, who chairs the Meth Task Force of the Minnesota County Attorney’s Association.  Panelists will include Dakota County Attorney Jim Backstrom and Chuck Norenberg, State Meth Coordinator.


     The epidemic of methamphetamine use has touched every community in Minnesota.  Today, one out of eight offenders in Minnesota state prisons is there for a meth related offense, with the number of meth offenders increasing 390 percent in the past five years.   Tragically, out of home placements of children due to meth abuse has risen 69% in Minnesota counties, with an annual societal cost in Minnesota of over $130 million.
