The sad reality of today's world is that we need to be prepared for disaster - including those made and inflicted by human beings. The Post Office in Duluth hosted a training drill Wednesday for its employees and regional responders so all could practice what to do should a package with anthrax ever show up in their facility. St. Louis County Public Health nurses, as well as 911 emergency communications specialists, were among the participants.

As part of the reconstruction of Highland Street and 57th Avenue West in Duluth, St. Louis County Public Works is installing a new bridge over Keene Creek. The bridge will be the largest of its kind in the state, and the arrival of the 183-foot beams that span the creek was quite the site to see.

One of St. Louis County Public Health and Human Services' main priorities is making sure all children can live in a healthy, happy environment, free from abuse or neglect. The Parent Support Outreach Program is one way Children and Family Services can help parents create a more nurturing and healthy home environment for their children. Paula Stocke, a supervisor in the Initial Intervention Unit, highlights some of the key aspects of the program.

More than 300,000 adults in Minnesota have asthma; in fact, it's one of the most common chronic diseases in the United States. But many people don't know that asthma attacks can be triggered by any number of things, including a coworker's cologne or perfume. As a result, many workplaces, including St. Louis County Public Health and Human services, are adopting scent free policies. PHHS Director Ann Busche takes a closer look at the disease.
