The St. Louis County Public Works Department has demonstrated time and time again - from its response in the wake of the 2012 flood, to its ability to plow 3,000 miles of roads following a major snowfall - that it is made up of dedicated, hard-working individuals. That teamwork was evident Wednesday in a very different situation, as employees found a unique way to send a valued colleague into retirement.

Throughout 2013, the St. Louis County Board, through Board Chair Chris Dahlberg's history initiative, highlighted stories of the County's history through it's people and places. It now seems particularly important to have heard two of those stories, because the storytellers - World War II vets Joe Gomer and Robert Givens - have since passed away.
