St. Louis County was proud to be one of the sponsors of last weekend's Balloon Festival in Duluth (officially known as Le Festival des Montgolfières à Duluth). The county's sponsorship supported the launching of three weather balloons by area schools. But County resources also served in another unique role.

When a road is closed for construction, it can be difficult to tell the progress being made. In the case of Haines Road, portions of which have been blocked off since flood waters washed it out 15 months ago, the massive reconstruction project is moving into the final stages.

The County Board has been debating for nearly two months, since the passing of Steve O'Neil, how best to serve the people of the second district until a special election can take place in January.
