After a 90day elimination-period (begins with onset of disability), the long-term disability  (LTD) benefit pays you 60% of your regular income (up to a maximum of $6,000 per month) if you become disabled due to a covered illness* or accident.  As long as your disability remains, the benefit will continue until age 65 or your Social Security Normal Retirement Age, whichever is later.  Because your LTD premium is taxed, your benefit will not be taxed so the 60% payment should be comparable to your net pay. 

 

*Disabilities resulting from mental disorders and substance abuse have additional limitations and requirements.
