One injured in boating accident during fishing contest

A Babbitt woman was injured when two boats collided during a "shotgun start" at a fishing contest on Birch Lake. The driver of one boat said his view was blocked by a passenger so that he didn't see the other boat in time.

The Cloquet couple was found unresponsive in their camper and could not be revived. Investigators believe a generator placed in an unvented storage space below the camper is to blame.

Extensive search ends with successful rescue of two

Two people, who were three days overdue in returning from a trip in Boundary Waters, were found following an air search involving the Sheriff's Office, DNR, Forest Service, State Patrol and National Guard. The two were uninjured, but taken to the hospital as a precaution.

Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the rollover accident that happened at the intersection of Canosia and West Arrowhead Roads in Solway Township. The passenger who was killed had been ejected from car.

Man rolls vehicle while trying to evade deputies in chase

A 48-year-old man from McKinley led deputies on a high speed chase along Highway 53 before being stopped by a PIT maneuver. The man was wanted for domestic assault. Deputies successfully recovered a rifle the man threw from his vehicle during the chase.

Rescue Squad successfully locates lost hiker in BWCA

A four hour search in the Angleworm Lake area resulted in the rescue of an Aurora woman who'd gotten lost while hiking. She was taken to the hospital for treatment of possible hypothermia.
