Man injured in snowmobile accident near Virginia

A 76-year-old man snowmobiling with a group on the Laurentian Snowmobile Trail appears to have lost control of his vehicle on a curve and was thrown. He was taken to a Virginia hospital by ambulance with injuries considered non life threatening.

Drugs and weapons seized in two search warrants

Investigators with the Lake Superior Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force conducted two search warrants - in Virginia and Mt. Iron - seizing drugs, firearms and cash. Four people were arrested. Three children were found at one of the locations and taken protective custody.

Homeowner injured as fire destroy house in Meadowlands

The cause of the morning fire remains under investigation. The homeowner escaped from the house and called 911. He was taken by ambulance to a Duluth hospital to be treated for minor burns and smoke inhalation.

A fire, believed to have started in a chimney while the homeowner was cleaning it, spread throughout the house. Thankfully the homeowner escaped uninjured.

A morning fire destroyed a home valued at $300,000. Nobody was home at the time, however the whereabouts of two family dogs is unknown. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Woman dead, child injured in Gnesen Township crash

Crash investigators say it appears the woman crossed over the centerline and struck an oncoming logging truck. She was pronounced dead at the scene. A 4-year-old boy had to be extracated from the car and is in critical condition.

After reviewing reports from the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and other involved agencies, St. Louis County Attorney Mark Rubin has determined a deputy sheriff and Gilbert police officer were justified in their use of deadly force for a man in Gilbert who'd already fired at them.

Fire destroys home in Grand Lake Township, pets perish

The home was fully engulfed in flames when deputies and fire fighters arrived. Two dogs are believed to have died in the fire. No one else had been home at the time, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
