St. Louis County is in the midst of plans to build a new Government Services Center (GSC) North facility to replace the aging Northland Office Center. The new GSC North will provide easier access for citizens, bring more county services under one roof, and significantly reduce energy use and costs. As part of these plans, the current Northland Building will be torn down.
A mandatory Environmental Assessment Worksheet (EAW) has been prepared by the City of Virginia as the Responsible Government Unit (RGU) for the proposed deconstruction of the Northland Office Center (NOC) in the 300 block of 1st Street South, Virginia, MN. The NOC is a building on the National Register of Historic Places, listed as the Virginia Recreation Building or the Shirt Factory. The site currently occupied by the NOC will be utilized by St. Louis County as part of a new government services center and civic center plaza in downtown Virginia.
