Board approves hiring 20 additional child protection workers

The added staff are needed to handle a huge spike in reports of child maltreatment that has occured in the last two year. The Board also approved hiring five more financial workers, and five corrections officers.


Open House planned for prospective foster parents

An information session for people who are considering serving as foster parents will be Thursday, August 11, from noon to 1:30. Foster home licensors will be available to meet one-on-one and answer questions about licensing requirements. The County is in constant need of temporary foster homes, as well short-term/emergency homes, and foster/adopt homes. 


Linnea Mirsch named interim director of Public Health and Human Services

Mirsch currently is the county's Deputy Administrator - Operations and Budget. The County Board is expected to appoint her to lead PHHS on interim basis following the resignation of Dave Lee.

Embedded Social Worker program recognized for innovation

Less than a year old, the unique partnership between St. Louis County and the City of Duluth is earning state attention and showing great signs of success. The program places a St. Louis County Social Worker to work side by side with Duluth Police responding to calls involving people with mental illness.


David Lee hired as Public Health and Human Services Director

Lee previously served in a similar role in Carlton County. He replaces Ann Busche who is retiring after leading PHHS for more than 11 years.


Events Planned for National Public Health Week

National Public Health Week will be celebrated April 4-10.  The first ever "Public Health Achievement Awards" will be presented by the County Board at it's April 5th meeting and other area events are also planned.


Annual Homeless Count going on now

St. Louis County and area agencies that serve the homeless are conducting an annual count to determine how many people were homeless and not in a shelter on the night of January 28. Read More...

County boosts efforts to recruit foster parents

The County Board approved spending up to $331,000 to cover start up costs, training and other expenses that serve as a financial hurdle for potential foster parents. Health & Human Service Conference theme is The Dance of Compassion
