Community Connect and Warrant Resolution Day - October 26

People who are experiencing homelessness or extreme financial hardship can get connected with resources for help. Staff from various county departments will be participating at this event Thursday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Damiano Center.


Community forum scheduled in Ely on opioid/meth problems

St. Louis County Public Health and Human Services and numerous other agencies have organized a public forum for October 25 at Ely Memorial High School to provide information and answer questions about substance abuse issues in the community.


The Power of Perspective: theme of 35th annual HHS Conference

The 35th annual St. Louis County Health & Human Services Conference is October 12-13 at the DECC, and will feature Dr. Maura Cullen as the keynote speaker.


Informational meeting set on autism and conditions that may go with it

Two free public meetings are scheduled for parents, caregivers and teachers of children with autism. The topic is the range of extra conditions - such as anxiety, sleep disorders and obsessive compulsive disorder - that often accompany autism. 


County receives $675,000 grant for new opioid treatment/recovery efforts

St. Louis County has received $675,000, which will be used to fund two new opioid withdrawal treatment programs through the Center for Alcohol and Drug Treatment, plus to purchase naloxone kits for use in rural communities and other targeted groups.


County seeks feedback on employment services offered to participants of three programs

The goal of the survey is to help evaluate the employment service options the county offers clients of MFIP, DWP and SNAP. This survey contains no identifying information and is completely anonymous.


Info sessions offered for parents of children with autism

The sessions will be held July 24 in Mt. Iron, and July 31 in Duluth, on the topic: "Creating calm amidst external chaos: Six pillars for creating calm and the science of self regulation"


County hosts forum on opioid/methamphetamine crisis

The growing crisis of illegal opioid and methamphetamine use is an issue across the country, and St. Louis County is no exception. A community forum to talk about what's being down and what resources are available will be held in Hibbing on July 19.


Public Health & Human Services - "Triage" approach to services

The St. Louis County Public Health and Human Services Department has created a centralized reception area in the Northland Office Center in Virginia, offering a "triage" approach to improve service delivery.


Public Health Achievement Awards presented

The County Board and Public Health honored Verne Wagner for his work to combat opioid abuse; and the National Diabetes Prevention Program team, a partnership involving Essentia Health and the Duluth Area and Mesabi Family YMCAs.
