Do you know a person or group who has made significant contributions to improve public health in our community? If so, nominate them for a St. Louis County Public Health Achievement Award.


Paula Stocke to lead Children & Family Services in northern part of County

Paula Stocke has worked for St. Louis County since 2001 and most recently supervised the Child Protection Intake Unit in Virginia.


Workshop on Wednesday for parents of children with Autism

Parents and caregivers of children with autism are invited to a workshop that focuses on strategies for better eating, sleeping and behavior. The session is Wednesday, Feb. 7 at DRCC in West Duluth.


Point in Time Homeless Count set for January 24

The survey will be conducted January 25, counting the number of people who were homeless on the night of January 24. It's important because money and resources awarded to communities to fight homelessness are based on documented counts of homeless persons and families.


Information sessions planned for prospective foster parents

Two open houses are planned - in Virginia and Duluth - to provide information and answer questions for people who are considering serving as foster parents.


Community Connect and Warrant Resolution Day - October 26

People who are experiencing homelessness or extreme financial hardship can get connected with resources for help. Staff from various county departments will be participating at this event Thursday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Damiano Center.


Community forum scheduled in Ely on opioid/meth problems

St. Louis County Public Health and Human Services and numerous other agencies have organized a public forum for October 25 at Ely Memorial High School to provide information and answer questions about substance abuse issues in the community.


The Power of Perspective: theme of 35th annual HHS Conference

The 35th annual St. Louis County Health & Human Services Conference is October 12-13 at the DECC, and will feature Dr. Maura Cullen as the keynote speaker.


Informational meeting set on autism and conditions that may go with it

Two free public meetings are scheduled for parents, caregivers and teachers of children with autism. The topic is the range of extra conditions - such as anxiety, sleep disorders and obsessive compulsive disorder - that often accompany autism. 


County receives $675,000 grant for new opioid treatment/recovery efforts

St. Louis County has received $675,000, which will be used to fund two new opioid withdrawal treatment programs through the Center for Alcohol and Drug Treatment, plus to purchase naloxone kits for use in rural communities and other targeted groups.
