The St Louis County Public Health & Human Service Department administers and provides a variety of health services for women, infants, children, and their families. 

Child & Teen Checkups (C&TC)

Child and Teen Checkups (C&TC) is the name for Minnesota's Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnosis and Treatment (EPSDT) Program. Family Home Visiting

Visits to pregnant women, infants and children for assessment, education, support, screening and referral for linking to community resources. The visits focus on education to include preventative health care for healthy pregnancies, mothers, babies, and families; nutrition, breastfeeding, bottle feeding, childbirth, parenting, safety, infant care, growth, and development.

Who is eligible? All pregnant women: first pregnancy, teen pregnancy, high risk pregnancy, history of chronic disease, complications during pregnancy, poor weight gain / high weight gain, interested in breastfeeding, history of preterm labor, multiple births, WIC clients, Postpartum women, infants & children from birth to 3 years, concerns about postpartum depression

Follow Along Program

Offers free information and guidance for early childhood growth and development through the mail for families with children 0-36 months of age. Any parent who is interested can enroll their child who is under 36 months.

Lead Poisoning Prevention

Offers case management, education, referral, and support for families who have children with lead poisoning due to exposure to lead.

Nurse Family Partnership

Nurse Family Partnership is a program for women who are having their first baby. A Specially trained nurse will visit in the home every week or two throughout the pregnancy and continue up until the baby is 2 years of age.
  • Have a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby.
  • Become a better parent
  • Build a strong network of support for mother and baby; make the home a safe place for baby to live and play; get referrals for healthcare, childcare, job training, and other support services available in the community; find ways to continue client’s education and develop job skills; set goals for the family’s future and find ways to help client reach them.

Superior Babies 

Superior Babies Program provides supportive relationships to any pregnant woman with a history of substance use. Superior Babies is committed to helping the mother reach a variety of life-skills and parenting goals to help meet her needs through pregnancy and until the baby reaches two years of age.
A client will partner with a licensed chemical dependency counselor and public health nurse. They will help her have the healthiest baby possible by assisting client with remaining drug and alcohol free; provide pregnancy and parenting education; help her find housing, food, support, and assist her to reach her employment and education goals.

Who is eligible? Any pregnant woman who wants to have a healthy baby and has questions or concerns about her chemical use. The programs are voluntary & free of charge.

WIC (Women Infants & Children)
